The plush, softly flowing texture cultivated in Japan's four seasons, combined with lightweight, highly stretchy domestic cotton, delivers an exquisite wearing experience. The fabric is woven with a design that evokes the atmosphere of traditional Japanese clothing.
This is a distinctive, one-of-a-kind original fabric in which the "nazuna stripes" pattern was printed on cloth featuring rich undulating shadows created by a gently and carefully woven texture.
■ About the relaxing wear "Nazuna Kyomiyabi-ori"
[Material]
Made from 100% domestic cotton. It is a double-layered cotton fabric slowly woven with yarn spun extremely softly to retain the durability of cotton. The fabric features pleasant crepe-like unevenness (yoryu) and soft gauze that neither clings to nor separates from the skin, offering both breathability and warmth. Notably, it has stretch comparable to jersey or knit. The unique cotton texture grows more comfortable with wear and washing. No ironing needed!
[Color]
A tastefully rich black unique to softly spun cotton, and a white that conveys the warmth and cleanliness characteristic of cotton. Even in a single color, the surface texture creates shadows reminiscent of ink wash painting.
[Pattern]
The pattern is called "nazuna stripes," a playful nod to Japanese culture and our company name.
It mimics the shape of "nazuna," one of the seven spring herbs, while subtly embedding the number "seventy-seven (77)." This is a hidden-character technique often used in kimono patterns.
The number 7 is considered a lucky number in America ("lucky seventh") and holds special meaning in Buddhism and Christianity. In ancient China and in Japan where its culture was transmitted, odd numbers are auspicious, and the custom of celebrating the five seasonal festivals where odd numbers recur continues today. We quietly add this sense of Japanese playful charm that loves lucky motifs. The repeating pattern also carries wishes for lasting prosperity.

■ Designer's Comment
"Would you like me to design relaxing wear for a luxurious inn full of Kyoto atmosphere that many overseas guests also enjoy?"
I was immediately thrilled by the sparkle of this opening invitation.
I wanted to use cotton that offers the soft, melting feel and stretch unique to domestic "made-in-Japan" materials.
I wanted to create garments that are comfortable throughout the seasons.
I wanted to realize styling true to the Japanese clothing principles of "wrapping" and "tying" that overseas guests would also appreciate.
I wanted a pattern that incorporated the playful wordplay and visual charm of reading "seventy-seven" as Nazuna, along with the auspiciousness of the number 7!
I packed all of these elements into the design and created the Nazuna Stripe—a traditional-style staggered stripe resembling plants’ nazuna arranged as repeated "77" motifs.
Thanks to the skill and spirit of Japan's local producers, it has been realized in a form that truly conveys our intent.
